Mr. Knowledgeable VI asked:

Right now, gasoline prices are on the rise througout the United States with not end in sight of prices going down. In some parts of the country, gasolline is over $4.00 and where I reside, the average gas price is $3.25 in Georgia.

What is advice you would give to other motorist on ways they can save money at the gasoline pump in the upcoming months?

The world hugely relies on natural gas or natural gasoline as a source of energy. It is highly combustible and a much cleaner source of energy compared to fossil fuels found in the deep reservoirs within the earth.

To obtain gasoline, drilling is the only option. Natural gasoline is made up of many hydrocarbons out of which methane is the predominant one. Natural gas in its original state also contains ethane, propane and butane as impurities. Removals of these impurities take place during the refinery process

With fossils fuels depleting at a rapid rate, scientists have diverted their attention towards natural gasoline as a chief source of energy. The usage of gasoline keeps fluctuating with climatic conditions. For instance, the demand increases during winters and goes down during summers.

Importance:

Natural gasoline has the property of burning without leaving any impurities and is a good source of energy. Due to these reasons, the demand of natural gasoline has sky rocketed. To make this natural gasoline available in the market, it is important to have natural gas pipeline facilities.

The number of these pipelines is proportional to the increase in the demand of natural gasoline. More the demand of natural gasoline more is the need of these pipeline facilities. Major petroleum companies have already started to build natural gas pipelines across Europe, North America and other countries.

Pipeline facilities provide the most effective means of transport for natural gasoline. By far, these pipeline facilities are the most convenient and best supply source for natural gasoline. Petroleum companies also transport natural gas through trucks and carriers. The cost of transportation is very high and it is a tedious job. Due to these reasons, this mode of transportation is impractical. Sometimes, such transportation is risky.

Natural gas pipeline facilities provide availability of natural gasoline to those places, where there is no reservoirs of natural gas. The cost of transportation is also negligible. Pipeline facilities are able to hold large volumes of natural gasoline.

Pipeline facilities transport natural gasoline faster to various fuel stations. Pipeline fuel stations transform natural gas effectively. The money spent on such transportation to the pipeline fuel stations is much less. These fuel stations help to facilitate thousands of natural gasoline supplies.

Countries, which have natural gas reservoirs with pipeline facilities, contribute a huge amount of money to their respective nation’s economy. It also helps in decreasing the amount of money spent on foreign import costs of fuels.

These pipeline facilities have made a broad way for the development of pipeline gasoline industry. These pipeline facilities have become a unique and independent industry. For many years, natural gasoline operators have identified the usefulness and functions of these pipeline facilities.

These pipeline facilities have made it possible to use natural gasoline in houses and offices easily for various purposes. The natural gasoline used in homes and offices is pure methane. Hence, you always need to recognize and remember the importance pipeline facilities for providing the community with such cleaner source of energy.

As far as I know, gasoline consists of a blend of several different hydrocarbons which are extracted from raw petroleum. In chemistry the stoichiometric ratio would refer to the the number of mols of each reactant required to make the reaction a balanced equation (or else it would violate the law of conservation of matter) That being said different hydrocarbons would have different stochiometric ratios with the atmospheric oxygen when they combust. So my question is this: How can their be a single value which is considered ’stoichiometric’ for gasoline?

This must be the 3rd time I’ve asked this in the same number of weeks now. I’m concerned because I’ll be there in Manila this week and the last time I was there, which was 10 months ago when gas was at 50 pesos a liter, I spent almost a quarter of my daily vacation money on gas (them CRVs really know how to *** out gasoline). 20-30 liters a day ain’t a joke.

I’m doing a science project on combustion of different grades of gasoline, but can’t seem to find anything on what percent of it is octane. I found one site, but it was contradicting saying (for example) 87 gas was 87% octane, but then says that the 87 is a compression rating. Anyone know how to find the percent of octane in a fuel?
I know that. What I need to find out IS the percentage of octane. If anyone knows, help!

I mean if you’re spending all your money on gasoline then you won’t any money left so when you think about it, it’s no different from not earning money.

This is just an sardonic irony conclusion however it looks like people will see that there is no difference from working and not working since either way there won’t be any money around.
I was just asking because apparently that is what’s happening to some people so for them to still choose to fork out so much cash for gasoline that burns fast for having luxury vans are naive.

Peter Kent asked:

Individuals who work in a field where dangerous levels of Mthyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) is released should know the harmful effects this can have on the body and how to protect yourself from it. The following are several occupations that are highly associated with extreme levels of MTBE exposure:

. Gas Station Attendants

. Taxi drivers

. Bus drivers

. Delivery drivers

. Mechanics

. Gasoline processing plant employees

. Others with high exposures to oxyfuels

However, those with occupations that bring them into abnormally high levels of contact with gasoline in urban areas are not the only people at risk. Even stopping to fill up the gas tank can expose an individual. Additionally, water contamination is another way to be exposed.

Fortunately, organizations such as the Environemental Protection Agency (EPA) have developed standards or recommendations specifically to ensure the safety of children in water levels. They have set the level at no more than 4 milligrams per liter of water for an exposure of one to 10 days, and they have also set long-term exposure at 3 milligrams per liter.

The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has recommended an exposure limit of 40 parts of MTBE per million parts of air (40 ppm) for an 8-hour work day/40-hour work week. It is imperative that an individual who is concerned about having been exposed to MTBE while on the job, that the individual contact authorities in order to test the water for toxicity levels. It is important that this occurs in areas with high traffic as well as in other areas with high gasoline levels.

Fortunately, there is no reason to be concerned about exposure to MTBE under any other circumstances than as an additive to gasoline, as it is not used for any other purposes. However, the use of MTBEs does occur in the medical procedure of dissolving gallstones, but this is the only exception.

Complaints regarding MTBE contamination or health risks fall under the category of toxic tort. In order for damages to be awarded, under tort law, the arguments of the plaintiff must hold sway over the defendents.

Cases regarding MTBE have gone to court and the plaintiffs have successfully received damages for ailments relating to the exposure to MTBE. It has been proven that many corporations or companies associated with this are knowingly providing for sale defective products.

There are many approaches that can be taken to toxic tort litigation, and many reasons that the responsible parties may be held accountable for lack of due concern for public safety and the environment. Fortunately, legitimate recourse for people who have suffered pain or discomfort because of exposure to the dangerous additive MTBE is available.
