alternate fuel sources in aviation?
Filed Under Aircraft | 4 Comments
*what are some alternate fuel sources for different engines in aviation (turbine, piston, turbo prop .etc).
*What needs to be done (resigning engine, injection)
*Performance loss or gain.
*Efficency (weight, litres/gallons used per distance traveled, price difference)

Will a helicopter fly on automotive gasoline?

In an emergency situation, could a pilot fuel up with gasoline? Would they need to change the mix? Would there be any short term malfunctions? How could a pilot make it work?

How much fuel is carried on an airplane?
Filed Under Aircraft | 7 Comments
How much fuel is carried on an airplane? I saw a movie once where an airplane landed on a building and it did not burn up or the building fall down but with 911 airplanes the building went down. Is there enough fuel in an airplane for it to be use like a bomb? I really do not buy in to conspiratory theories. But I have been worring if it was more to it then this. So how much fuel is carried on a airplane? And could this be real?

What is airplane fuel made of and can I use it in my car, or more specifically, my vespa scooter?
Filed Under Aircraft | 8 Comments
My friend bought airplane fuel for his Vespa scooter. I heard that airplane fuel is leaded to increase the octane rating, but wouldn’t that clog the engine and particularly the catalytic converter? Is there a way around this? He has heard of it done before, and that it increases accelteration and high end.

For example, Jumbo Jet. To get from the ground to, say, 1,000 feet, 5,000 feet, etc and to cruising altitude of 35,000 feet. How much fuel used to get to each level, and how much as a percentage of the full fuel load ?

Why does fuel consumption in a typical turbofan engine decrease with altitude increase?
Filed Under Aircraft | 4 Comments
Why is it that when a aircraft is higher up, such as at FL360, it uses less fuel than if it were at FL180. Please note that the engine power setting is the same. Example 65% for both cases.
I believe a jet engine compresses air, hence why it is more effective at high altitudes. So if it compresses air before ignition, wouldn’t that mean you would still need just as much gas as when you were lower down?—(talking about fuel/air mix ratio here.)

I recently flew from Montana to Chicago, around 850 miles. I noticed when the fuel truck was filling up the plane, it had a gauge showing how much fuel was put in. The final number was 1407. I could tell if that was 140.7 gallons or 1407 gallons. How many gallons does an average airplane hold? I was in a smaller plane, prob held around 50 people, it was a United plane if that helps.

Im talking about a commercial plane like a boeing.
How much fuel does it carry and is it efficient?

Are there any differences between Fuel Tanks of different Aircraft Models, except Fuel Capacity?
Filed Under Aircraft | 4 Comments
Am jst curious to know whether are there any differences between the Fuel Tanks of different Aircraft Models other than the fuel capacity of the tanks.
Is there any change in the naming convenetions of the Fuel Tanks in different Models? For Ex. Tank 1, Tank 2, Tank 3, Center Aux Tank, Tail Tank … etc.
The details am interested in are…
Can I have uniform fuel loading computation that can be used irrespective of the models. For Ex. First, Load Fuel equally into Tank1, Tank 2, Tank 3 till Tank 1 & Tank3 is filled to max capacity.
Then, Load Tank 2 till it is filled to its maximum capacity.
Still, if U have remaining fuel to be loaded… load into the Center Aux and Tail Tank as per the GFS Ratio.
And fuel can be loaded to optional fuel tanks only in case the standard fuel tanks are filled?!
Kindly validate the above OR provide some reference to get information on theabove.
