How long before the oil/gasoline that we use for our vehicles depletes from its sources?
Filed Under Earth Sciences & Geology | 4 Comments
I am just wondering, for how long will it take before the oil/gasoline-producing countries will ran out of oil that they are mining? Has there any authentic and accurate speculations or calculations made to compute the number of years, or even centuries, left before the well runs dry?
Is it also possible to “refuel” the depleted oil over the years to come?

How close are we (human beings) to having enough non gasoline based vehicles to forget the gas crisis?

What are some things we will need to do to sustain our lifestyles using other methods of energy besides gasoline so that we can still travel, and so that there is no longer a high price of gasoline issue? And when can we expect for this change to take effect wide scale?
If it won’t happen right away, and we are running out of fossil fuel then when can we expect what kind of devastating consequences to happen?

How many tyrannosaurs are in a gallon of gasoline?
Filed Under Earth Sciences & Geology | 2 Comments
While I suppose that most of the carbon in America’s favorite fossil
fuel is botanical in origin, it’s easier to get a gut feel for unrenewability by considering dinosaurs.
So to be more specific, if you estimate the number of carbon atoms in one full-grown adult tyrannosaur, what volume of 92 octane gasoline would that represent? And conversely, how many dinosaurs could you build out of the carbon in one gallon of gas?

I have heard the ridiculous argument that it takes more gasoline to refine alcohol than is produced. If that were true, doesn’t it tke several gallons of gas to produce one gallon? Corn grows and Oil gets pumped out of the ground. What’s the deal ?
OK. Let’s find out how much fuel it takes to produce a gallon of 87 octane regular gasoline.
I am aware that engines can run on a large variety of combustible fuels. There are model A engines converted to run on charcoal fumes even.
I though alcohol required sucrose for production.
